Small Groups

“Small groups” is the simple term for describing small groups of people from our church community gathering in homes, pubs, parks or anywhere that suits, to talk about their faith and slowly learn how to live a life that might, just possibly, look a little bit like Jesus’.

At our church, we place a high importance on fostering authentic community connections and understanding the importance of learning from one another. We believe that by actively seeking out opportunities to connect with others, we not only improve our relationships with those around us, but also with ourselves and the world we inhabit. Our small groups are organised to provide a space for individuals to come together, engage in meaningful discussions, and grow in their faith through shared experiences and support.

At our church, we recognize the importance of diversity of thought and opinion. We understand that unity does not necessitate uniformity, but rather the reconciliation of differences and the honouring of those differences. As Ephesians 2:14-16 states, we believe that these differences come from the same Spirit and it is through these differences that we can learn and grow. Our small groups are not composed of individuals with identical experiences and ideas, but rather of individuals who will challenge and broaden our perspectives. As long as we approach these differences with a recognition of the sacred in all, and with a willingness to engage in holy critique when necessary, we can foster a community that is inclusive and equitable.

At our church, we believe in giving individuals the autonomy to choose their level of involvement in our small groups. Unlike other small groups, we don't want anyone to feel obligated or pressured to continue attending indefinitely. Our small groups operate on a four-month cycle, during which they meet regularly. At the end of each cycle, group members have the option to continue meeting for another four-month period or take a break. This approach allows individuals to participate in the small group experience in a way that is comfortable and sustainable for them and gives them the freedom to take a break or re-evaluate their participation as needed.
