Our Mission & Values
Our Mission
To live for the well being of our community.
Our vision became that, together, we would live for the well being of the community. This holistic view encompasses physical, spiritual and emotional health. This occurs through the person of the Holy Spirit evidenced among us, transforming our lives to reflect Gods love and passion. In living for the well being of our community, love becomes the primary motive. As we experience the unrelenting love of Jesus we in turn cannot help but evidence this love to the urbanlife community, and broader community in which we live.
Our Values
Mission
To live our lives as people sent into the world by God
This central tenant of mission implies that as a community we would be found busy about the fathers business of bringing Gods kingdom to earth. Practically, it signals that our following of Christ is outwardly focussed, constantly seeking ways in which we can relationally connect to and serve other people.
This notion of extending the kingdom of God to earth is underpinned by two important aspects:
Proclamation
- Seeing lost people powerfully encounter Jesus and connect to God
- Sharing the good news of Jesus
- Participating in the extension of Gods Kingdom on the earth
Justice and Mercy: To act justly, love mercy and walk with humility through:
- Practically meeting the needs of the marginalized by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, tending to the orphan, the widow and the refugee.
- Participating in the extension of Gods Kingdom on the earth
- Seeing people powerfully encounter Jesus Christ
Community
To live our lives in meaningful connected relationships
To follow Jesus is to be joined together by a common cause. This cause extends well beyond a Sunday meeting and calls us to connect relationally and live life deeply together, through the trials and triumphs. At their best, these kinds of relationships speak to us of Christs love and concern, and assist us in experiencing His presence and desire to connect with us in our humanity.
In order to relate as an inclusive community of people joined by a common cause value is placed on regular times of communion around a meal table, reflecting the understanding that we belong to one another. The extension of hospitality, and invitation to find belonging, extends to those who connect to the urbanlife community in many and varied capacities.
Discipleship
To live our lives in accountable learning relationships
Whether professing a faith or pre faith, we would disciple people to see Jesus at work in their lives. This occurs most naturally within the context of genuine community, calling us to intentionally journey with those around us for as long as their journey to finding Christ may take. Having decided to follow Jesus, the maturing of faith would continue as we journey together to discover what it means to live as subjects of Jesus kingdom.
This commitment to living in accountable learning relationships engages each of us, in a journey of lifelong learning and growth. In this sense, the following questions become vital points of reflection as we live a life of incarnating Jesus to those around us:
- Where have I participated in meaningful, connected relationships?
- Where have I participated in accountable learning relationships?
- Where have I participated with a sense of being sent by God?
- Where have I engaged with God this week?
- Where have I contributed to the family of urbanlife this week?
Apostolic/Prophetic
To live our lives with a voice for God and a posture to lead
As a community we have would possess a relevant and constructive voice to the broader community. Both in our corporate expression and personal spheres of friendship groups, colleagues, neighbours and family we would be people big in sprit, big in heart, and big in actions. We would see ourselves as blessed, and created to live with abundance and generosity to all we encounter.
Organic
To live our lives together as family
As a community urbanlife will look more like a family than an organisation. When people encounter the people and activities of urbanlife they would be natural, creative and organic in their nature. People are empowered to be themselves, and rather than encounter organisational structures will encounter a supportive and encouraging community.
